Watered the garden & asparagus bed. it's getting hot here early... they say we will shatter a record here tomorrow.

Vacuum packed everything from the last 2 days. We will start processing the leeks probably tomorrow or Thursday.

Back to my stone work after taking 2 yrs off. Laid 96' along the high fence in the hope of keeping the armadillos out of the yard.

Planted the sweet potatoes. I needed 16 slips, I ended up with 16 good ones and another 6 puny ones. they're still viable slips, but no room. I planted 12 Jewell and 4 Garnet.

Watered the garden, asparagus, flowerbeds, hanging baskets & all the trees.

Refilled the hummingbird feeders as needed.

Put out another seed block & clean/refill the bird water trough.

Went to town to pickup a few things at the grocery store & to drop off some potatoes, onions & leeks for the gal that does our haircuts.

Watered the porch pots.

Cleaned & changed the airflow direction of all the ceiling fans.

Went to the feed store to pickup molasses buckets & mineral blocks for the cattle. Also picked up marker dye, surfactant & herbicide to spray the roads..

In addition to the damping off treatment in the other thread, watered everything. plucked some weeds. I need to get my water pipes in the beds and get the mulch down. Beans are starting to pop, as are the bunching onions. Pinched some early buds of the back tomatoes, the plants are about 18" tall, would like them to go a bit more before they bear. Cleaned up a lot of lower branches on the tomatoes.

Built a frame to keep the rabbits/squirrels/birds off the strawberries. Planning to cover it in chicken wire this weekend. Squirrels keep digging up the plants, so far I haven't lost any, been lucky.

Watered the garden & asparagus bed.

Received the last load of shredded pine bark mulch for the garden.

Adjusted the electric gate opener at the house to close more fully.

Made a batch of stuffed jalapenos.

Pulled the remaining leeks, then cleaned/prepped them for processing/freezing.

Wine is in a closet still bubbling away. Still have a couple more days to go before I transfer to carboys for second fermentation.

Finished up the bacon today. Next time I will take @whistech advice and cure for 21 days. The bacon is mighty fine, but I can see where a longer cure would put that little extra richness to it.

That darn armadillo was back again... He has been tearing up the flowerbeds & garden bad. The good news is I caught him this morning & he won't be doing it anymore due to a high speed injection of lead to the head. He was pretty big, I'm guessing about 20 lbs.

RIP_Dilla.jpg

Reformed the potato row & the leek area, Afterwards I re-mulched them & their pathways.

Harvested our 1st cucumber!!!

Started raining about 1700 hrs (0.72" thus far). We needed it badly... I hope it continues all night.

1.5" of rain in the last 24 hours high of about 65 F today

Yesterday:
planted
  • 9 rows of popcorn
  • 12 butternut squash
  • 5 watermelon
  • 12'x4' raised bed of beets
  • 8'x4' raised bed of onion
Cleaned out the garage, persuaded the back gable wall of the garage back to where it should be, re-anchored the back gable wall to the foundation wall.

Today:
  • Cleaned gutters
  • planted 140 more popcorn plants - will become 3 rows - in soil cubes to transplant (sounds weird but works)
  • worked on some projects in the basement
Overall I didn't start any new projects but I didn't complete any main tasks

Tied up all the peppers as the are getting top heavy. Also tied up all the tomato plants for the 4th time (they're loaded).

Harvested another cucumber to go with our supper.

Harvested another big bowl of basil for dehydrating.

The Angel Trumpets on the front porch are doing well, they seem to like our heat.
