Watered the garden & asparagus bed this morning due to the dry north wind blowing.

Cleaned, fixed & rehung the Strauss rain gauge at the gate.

Maintenance of all the computers & then made backups.

Traded cars with my inlaws to get his tiny pickup for the week.
Started moving boxes out to the garage in prep for moving.

Had my seedlings and fruit trees inside overnight as temps hit about 26 F.

Quietly had all three kids go down stairs and sign a Mother's Day card. Only to have the 4 year old run back up stairs and proudly tell he mom "I just signed your Mother's Day card". Stinkin' child.

Watered the garden, asparagus bed, trees & porch pots.

Did the yearly maintenance on the shredder, then cut the pasure adjacent to the garden & house. Also did along the road since the county hasn't done it (why do I pay taxes???).

Started making the raised beds for my new garden - by this I cut the roof panel with snips and ripped the top rim. Will use corrugated metal roof panels to make bed walls based on the design in this vid:

Quick estimate it will cost $25 per 8' long, 30" wide raised bed with the side wall roughly the same height as a 2x8. Lowes sells standard un-treated 2x8x8s for $7.87 each. So, nominally, the same cost.

Happy Mother's Day to ALL of Mom's out there !!

Made the usual peonies hunt. Found some. Out of all the flowers...She had to pick peonies. I really need to grow my own. The struggle every year is getting old .
Mowed the yard. Filled the fish feeder. Almost died from wasp sting(4) . It's time to break down this tree house. Little one is not too happy at all.

Bought about 1/2 the smoke detectors the local ACE hardware had in stock. The house we bought didn't have one working smoke detector.

Replaced the back tire on my daughter's bike. Enough kids have skidded to a stop they wore a hole through the tire to the inner tube was in contact with the road.

Bought material to make 2 more raised beds. Made most of the cuts.

Made bread.

Puttered in the garden (fertilized, adding mulch & weeding as needed). Also tied up the tomato plants.

Waiting for the rain to arrive... suppose to rain for the next 10 days.

Another hard frost overnight.

=====

Got the keys to my house.
2 hours walk around and most of the initial cleaning.

75% of the assembly done on my raised beds.
  • All cuts made
  • All wooden parts assembled
  • All wooden parts painted with a semi-transparent deck sealer
  • Tomorrow I assemble them into rectangles and drop them in place

We received 1.65" of rain late yesterday.

Made another batch of old-fashion bread pudding with brandy sauce for dessert tonight.

Took the truck in for its yearly inspection, oil change & lube. No problem shaking hands there...

Did the weekly shopping.

Watered the porch pots & hanging baskets.

Refilled the hummingbird feeders.

Got a pot of pinto beans seasoned up & soaking for tomorrow.

Got woke up at 0130 hrs by some vivid lightning & found that we have received another 1.95" of rain.

I didn't do a thing today... I just kicked back & hung with the family.

LONG few days:
Moved stuff from old rental to new house
Finished built, placed, and filled 4 raised garden beds
ATT had to run a new DSL line to the house - the tech even "remembered" this line being a problem...

Direct seeded snow peas and parsnips in the rain - one bed planted

Raining and mid 50s out right now - calling for over an inch of rain today.

Some news outlets may have mentioned a freeze warning, most didn't. It's not really a news worthy event this early in the season around here.

We are constantly getting lakeshore flood warnings though. Lake Michigan (aka the big lake) is so high right now it is washing across roads, erroding dunes and under houses and generally causing havoc.
