Kind of chilly here ... 58 degrees.

Made a big batch of scalloped potatoes that will mostly be vacuum packed & frozen for later use.

Made bread.

Planted the radish, cilantro & green onions this morning.

Dug up the vicinity of the leak in the irrigation system. After finally finding it, I replaced a section of pipe. An hour later, I turn the system back on & checked my repair (good to go).

Made stuffed jalapenos to go along with the fried pork chops that Mrs. Ranch is making.

Watered everything remaining in the greenhouse, then watered the garden, flowerbeds & all the trees while Mrs. Ranch, Dieter & I enjoyed some porch time..

I didn't do anything yesterday as my hip was hurting pretty bad...

Today I removed the insulated window covers from the greenhouse & adjusted the openers. Also did the roof vents.

Vacuum packed portions of the scalloped potatoes & put them in the freezer.

Pulled the Canadian bacon from the brine, soaked them in fresh water & then trussed them up to keep them round. They will rest in the refrigerator overnight to equalize the moisture & dry somewhat. I'll smoke them tomorrow.

Seasoned up the Canadian bacon (honey & cracked pepper) & put them on the smoker over apple wood coals at 200 degrees).

Also seasoned up 2 chicken breasts that I throw on the smoker for supper. I'll make some ranch rice to go with them.

Watered the garden, hanging baskets, porch pots, half of the trees & the stuff in the greenhouse.

About to start working on the flowerbeds I built last year from all the free stone I acquired. I'm going to start with this one up by the entry. Had a load of bank sand delivered yesterday that I'll use for the base of the bed, and then I'll add in a good amount of rose soil from the dirt yard. This bed will have 8 Drift Rose plants, 1 Bougainvillea, 2 Dwarf Pittosporum and a half dozen Sunshine Ligustrum.

Well I had that interview now we have choices.

I have an offer which involves relocating from northern IL to western Michigan. We're heavily leaning to moving form this socialist paradise back to the right side of the lake. But I want a larger number and a later start date.

Man relocation will be a lot of work.

I cut down some yaupon that was in mixed in with this mesquite tree in the new bed we're working on. Now I want to kill it (yaupon).

Do y'all think I'll cause any harm to the tree if I paint the freshly cut 'stumps' of the yaupon with straight roundup?

I been spraying RoundUp around the trees for years & it has never bothered them.

Having said that, a product like 'Remedy' (or one that contains triclopyr) mixed with diesel would be a much better choice for a basal bark or cut stump application. It will kill any woody stump.

@wolffman the roundup needs to hit green growing vegetation. Spray the woody part all you like but it won't kill it. Wait until the parts you cut back start to leaf out then spray the new leafy growth.

There are ways you can drill holes in to the trunk of a tree as the sap is flowing and pour roundup concentrate in the holes. This method carries the glyphosate to the vegetation and, for all intents and purposes, does the same thing as spraying the leafs.

Made bread.

Did the weekly shopping.

Revise the plan & planted 6 eggplant in the abbreviated onion row (I have plenty of green bell peppers to fill that entire row). Also planted 18 jalapenos plants. Marigolds were planted between each of the plants to draw in pollinators & to prevent any nematodes.

Hey Sam.Looking at planting my corn.Do you have a soil temperature? I was in the El Campo area yesterday and some of the farmers are finally able to start disking [rain].I'm looking for a soil temp around 65.

41% Roundup applied undiluted to the stumps will kill it...done it several times in other places. The roots of these plants surely mix in with the Mesquite tree roots. I just want to make sure that it doesn't harm the tree somehow. My instinct says it will be fine since the chemical should remain within the target plant.
