rocket stove

I have not put a whole lot of thought into this yet but will post looking for ideas at this point. My main trouble with this project comes from my lack of experience and knowledge in working with metal.

Anyway I think I want to build a rocket stove for things like pasta water and cooking with a wok in the summer when the AC is on in the house.

This is an example of what I am thinking about. http://ecozoomstove.com/portfolio-type/zoom-dura-lite/

There are several online how-to articles but each of these look flimsy and easy to knock over especially when you get a wok going.

My thoughts keep coming back to a galvanized bucket with a stove-pipe type center. Use a metal tube about 3" diameter to connect the two. The void area between the bucket and the stovepipe would then be filled with sand, gravel, or concrete. If I really think about it I will fit a gas range burner cover over the top to hold the pot. If I used concrete it would mechanically hold all the pieces together so simple pop-rivets may work to anchor the metal together.

Yan, i do not know anything about Rocket Stoves, but do not heat galvanized metal too hot as it gives off terrible fumes.

Never seen a commercial rocket stove just the ones made from either brick or tin cans. The ecozoom looks pretty neat.

So I stumbled on this one when looking for a new knife on cabela's website.

Looks easy enough to replicate with my skill level but I'll have to beef it up some.
