Neato video of asparagus growing.

I never realized it grows similar to how grass grows!

cool video. I love this stuff. We have about a month or month and a half of free once a week asparagus here, grows in a several spots (luckily several secret spots) that you just go pick. Also have some we planted two years ago so it should grow well this coming summer.

Yeah from first planting. Really really a downer lol. Weve planted it several time through the years and it always takes two years, second summer it sprouts very small pieces then the next summer is good to go.

Growth rate depends on the climate. I have always managed some harvest the first year, when planted from crowns. Seeds take longer, but root crowns are the best way to go. Be sure you get male plants as female plants drop lots of seed, and enough of them sprout to crowd your bed.

I have always wanted to grow it, but being a renter that moves a lot, it never seemed a good idea, at least not for me to benefit from, and growing in my limited spaces for future residents makes no sense :p.
