Tried dumplings again.

Not a big fan. Will go back to eggrolls or springrolls.

Did you get the dipping sauce with it? Is that the meat kind or all Veggies?

They were meat - ground beef, green onion, minced cabbage, soy sauce, corn starch, baking soda, salt, sesame oil

I didn't really like the doughy texture of the upper wrapper. I think I had them over too much heat and the bottoms crisped up too far. They were also too tedious. The eggrolls are much faster to make.

Woke up to 27 degrees this morning.... brrrr.

Took Mrs Ranch's Jeep up to the dealer for the yearly inspection, oil change, a tuneup & to replace the tire sensors. I'll return their loaner when I pick it up tomorrow.

Awaiting delivery of the new ventilation hood for the kitchen.

Applied the final coat of paint to Dieter's bed frame. I'll let it dry for a couple of days, put the nylon 'feet' on the bottom corners & put it in place.

Picked up Mrs Ranch's Jeep from the dealer.

Removed the old cooking vent. I need to modify the cabinet to accommodate the new one... this will take a few days, nothing is easy any more.

Made 2 loaves of bread, one of which is a pepperoni loaf for neighbors down the road.

Did the weekly shopping.

Fed the cattle.

Moved Dieter's bed frame into our bedroom... that lil' project is done.

Fixing the wiring in the bathroom after a simple switch broke. You can do it right or you can do it again., I'm doing it again, after work, by the light of a flashlight, with kids underfoot.

Bathroom light switch replaced which includes the old knob and tube wire from switch to light being replaced with romex.
Old medicine cabinet shelf unit removed.
New bath mirror frame started (waiting on glue to dry).
Bathtub / shower hot water valve cartridge replaced and the drip stopped.

2 inches of snow between 2 A.M. and 8 A.M.

Apparently, the Halloween pumpkin the wife brought home had fruit flies along with it. We are having a heck of a time trying to get rid of them. Anyone have experience getting rid of them?

I am looking to make some old fashioned Czech Jaternice sausage (pronounced ‘ethernice’) this winter. This requires a whole hogs head, liver, heart, and sometimes even lungs. Any of the TX folks know where I can buy it?

It's not a single step but here goes:
  • Find and eliminate the source(s). Check for other things than just the pumpkin.
  • Set some traps. I use jelly jars with some red wine vinegar and a drop of dish soap then a plastic bag with a hole rubber banded over the top to make a minnow trap entrance.
  • Fly paper also works if hung in front of a window. They'll fly toward the light and look for a place to land.
  • If the swarm is really bad wait until many seem to be roosted then go along with a vacuum cleaner and suck them up.

51 degrees & raining here again...

Continue modifying the cabinet over the stove for the new vent hood. Afterwards I tried dry fitting it but it still won't fit, I'll do more tomorrow. Like I told Mr. Ranch, we're getting there little by little...

Got a pot of beans seasoned & soaking for soup tomorrow since it going to be on the cold side for the next few days.

Did the annual toys-for-tots shopping and donation. Kids each put the toys they picked out in the donation bin without a problem.
Made deviled eggs.
Pot roast in the slow cooker.
Found that I have to send my Kershaw EDC knife back for warranty replacement work (lost the pocket clip screw).

Wet and cold all day. Pressure wash the dog kennels/run.Moved all momma's fruit tree into the green house. Kids are home from college. Washing machines are running non-stop. Fridge and pantry is bare. My middle daughter aka "Drama Queen" wanted to have sushi and Japanese steak for her birthday. Packed 17 kids into "Big_Bertha" and went to a place called " Samurai Steak and Sushi" food is not bad at all. One photo below is of the most best amateur chop stick "Help" device/contraption I've seen. LOL!

Still cold, still raining... Received 0.45" yesterday & 0.62" thus far today.

Taking the day off from the cabinet modification, so I can cook. Made the bean soup for our supper & also made bread.

These are the same idea and what we use in our house with little kids. The blue one used to have a cartoon penguin on it but the loops force the kids fingers to the "right" location but I couldn't read the Korean instructions.

Is there anything to different cultures holding chop sticks differently? The Korean made helper chopsticks are nothing like how I hold and use them. All the illustrations I see in Japanese style cook books are different still.

Went to the hardware store for lag bolts, screws & washers for the vent project. Hard to believe that I didn't have what I need here already as I've been accumulating fastener stuff for over 50 years...

Finished modifying the cabinet over the stove & installed the new vent hood. All that is left to do is install the new duct work when the parts arrive. This was a pain because Italian-made appliances are not made to just slide into custom American cabinets.
