Did the weekly shopping.

Continued to watch the fencing guys. The netwire is all installed along the frontage road (880 ft). Also 2 tractors w/posthole diggers were delivered along with the big cedar corner posts/braces & the rolls of gaucho barbed wire. Still awaiting the arrival of the skid-steer to level/scape the fence line. Looks like 2 crews were called in to get this project done ASAP...
Sam a couple of questions. So you are replacing the old fence[post and wire] with all new? Can one place hog proof wire over existing wires?

Yes & no. The fence along frontage road already had the posts replaced & they are still solid, so all that was required in this area was the installation of the netwire. That was not the case with the north fence line,,, which will be entirely new.

Absolutely, as long as the posts are serviceable. This was done on both the southern fence line, as well as the frontage fenceline.

@w_r_ranch now what will you do with yourself if you don't spend all your time shooting hogs and repairing the damage they've caused.

This may sound like a dumb question but does one have to get permission from the owner that shares the boundary to add the wiring?

I'm fixing to find out, LOL!!! I guess I can always drink more & shoot snakes... I'm actually pretty good at that!!!

Not if the fence is on your property. It would be nice if neighbors shared the costs (as it benefits both), but I've never heard of that ever happening...never.

Cleaned up my community garden for the winter
  • Found some beans were worth harvesting. Unknown howmany this works out to be, still in a pile in the basement.
  • Found about a dozen more ears of popcorn.
  • Pulled about 30 pounds of butternut squash.
  • Mowed it all down to the lowest deck height of the PTO driven mower.
Cleaned out some more of the home garden.
Removed another 4 wheel barrows of top soil where I have to re-grade the yard around the house.
Mulched up the first round of fall leafs and applied them as mulch to the veg garden.

What a difference in the weather from yesterday to today... From 90 degrees & sunny to 54 with wind driven rain... I doubt that anybody is going to be working on the fence today. Tomorrow is suppose to be worst. Update: The temperature is still dropping, it's down to 49 now & we have 1.50" of rain thus far today (5.19" for the month).

Still on the cool side here (58 degrees, but the rain has stopped). No fence work due to the standing water.

Made another pear cake.

Rained again yesterday, so all I did was make bread.

Today I divided up 3 sirloins steaks, separating the 'money muscle' (coulotte cut) & cubing the rest for Carne Guasda. Then vacuum packed it all.

Start dusting & resorting the hardback books.

Threw out what was left of the old VHS video library to make room for our evergrowing blu-ray library. I need to do the same with the music cassettes/players some time soon.

Enjoying the nice weather this morning.

The 9 yr old is suddenly in to drawing me pictures of nuclear explosions. Proud Dad.

Isn't it great. We were watching a youtube vid last night showing how to process a pheasant and just as he was slitting the lower carcas to remove the guts my 6 year old (loudly) said "Now to disembowel it". My wife just glared at me. We were watching this video. After the vid the kids werre also asking to make spatzle.

It must have rained hard last night (I only see 1.66" in the rain gauge) as the stock tanks are way up this morning... it looks like we caught about 2 foot of runoff. I expect it will be a while until the fencing crews can continue...

Mrs. Ranch & I went to town to get our haircuts.

Canned the pear sauce from yesterday. Got 13 pints out of that batch.
